For the love of a hound.....

We've had Gidget for 8 weeks...well, it'll be 8 weeks tomorrow....and let's just say she's dug a deep, deep, deep hole in everybody's hearts....I've had dogs with personality before...but Fluffer Nutter....she takes the cake...

Now, we've had several dogs over the years....some just didn't work out and we rehomed (because it's important for the dog to be happy, not just the owners)...a couple escaped and we never saw them again....and Zahra, our boxer had to be put to sleep before she was even a year old....and we all loved her so very dearly....but I think we've become a hound family...well, I think we will always have one...

Really it shouldn't be a surprise...the Man grew up with some ragamuffin mixed breeds, but he had a beagle...whose name was Fletcher....(Does anyone remember the story, How Fletcher Was Hatched)....

And I....I had Harry...
actually, I still have Harry...or Harold the Hound Dog.....if you want to be technical....I took this picture yesterday....I've had him since I was 2 (at least...you'd have to ask my parents for the exact age)...so he's 30 years old...yes...ladies and gents...I'm 32....ooooh....and I still have a stuffed animal from my childhood...

now can you see what Harry resembles?...
yes, a Basset Hound...a hush puppy....I just wanna rub those soft ears....oh Harry, why couldn't you be real?....LOL....I did have a dog growing up....her name was Emily...and she was a chow chow...and I loved her a lot...

One year we went to my Uncle Ed and Aunt Lela's house...for the 4th of July (we usually went 2x a year...for 4th and Christmas....)....now my uncle had a lab named Skipper..and Skipper was so much fun he liked to play Frisbee and jump in the pool ... we took  Emily with us that summer (why exactly, I don't remember)....and what did Uncle Ed have too?....he had a Basset Hound!...named Claymore....let me tell you I wish I had a picture...it was love at first sight (for me anyway)...I wanted to take him home...those ears!...the paws that smelled like corn chips!....that low slung heavy set body....oh yes...I wanted that dog...but of course I had a dog...and besides...I had Harold...

I think Claymore ended up living with Uncle Ed's Mom.....I don't think I ever saw him again...

So now, we have Gidget...I know, she's a Dachshund not a Basset Hound...but she's a hound!!!!.....all 5.6 lbs of her...I swear she can sniff out anything...and she loves food...every time the Man goes into the kitchen...she follows him...see...the Man=food....LOL...whether he gives her a bite or drops it on the floor (who needs to sweep up crumbs when you have a dachshund...crumbs?...what crumbs?)....

She's funny, feisty, entertaining, stubborn (the dog HATES a collar...literally backs up if you hold it up in front of her)....goofy, tenacious, vocal...oh yes, she talks...she talks to everyone...and she makes us all laugh....she's not fond of car rides though....
What?...are you talking about me?

why are you laughing?....what's so funny?

Huh?....I don't see anything over there?

Hey!....you tricked me....what?...whadya mean my ear was messed up?....it looks fine!

You know...you got something funny on your head.....no, not the camera....I think it's your face!...haha

We also have Lexie....she's a Shih Tzu.....she thinks she's the Queen Bee....her current "royal chambers" are under my chair in the living room....personally I think it's a possessive thing...it's my chair...and I'm HER human...not that she doesn't like Gidget...but....things happen when she comes out...

yes, did you say my name?....you know I don't like to come out and mingle with the commoners

You want to take my picture....again!!....woman, don't you have fifty million of me already....I mean, look at me...I'm gorgeous....well, hurry up....I think I hear something...

ah, ah, ah....get it off, get it off!!....this tiny little flea bitten mongrel has just clamped down on the royal seat cushion!!....you!....you!...this is all YOUR fault!...you brought that thing home....

And then she went back under the chair....lol....

See, Lexie...through no fault of her own...doesn't play....not with toys, not very often with the other animals....just not much at all...we jokingly call her our little old lady....because...well, she's gray and she acts like a little old lady....not doing much all day........She does love car rides and getting to go places...she's always game for an adventure....even when her short legs and snub nose don't let her get very far on her own...

if I could just combine the two...I think we'd have a perfect dog...lol...
